Design Coordinator & Technical Translator (Mandarin Speaker)

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary language and technical communication bridge between the Chinese design team and Indonesian local designers, consultants, clients, and government approval authorities.

• Provide interpretation during meetings, translate drawings, technical documents, emails, and design coordination records.

• Support technical alignment between the Chinese design institute and local design teams, ensuring accurate communication of architectural, structural, MEP, and fire protection design intent.

• Participate in design meetings, drawing reviews, and technical discussions; prepare meeting minutes and track issue resolution.

• Translate and organize design documents, permitting materials, technical specifications, calculation summaries, fire approval documents, etc.

• Assist the Design Manager in coordinating across disciplines: architecture, structure, MEP, fire protection, and data center specialties.

• Accompany Chinese staff on site visits, liaising with local contractors, consultants, government officials, and review agencies.

• Help manage local consultants’ deliverables, drawing quality, and permitting/review schedules.

• Perform other design project management and technical translation tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Language Skills

   • Fluent in Mandarin, able to use it as a working language, with understanding of Chinese engineers’ communication style.

   • Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and/or English, capable of smooth communication with local consultants and government officials.

2. Professional Background

   • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or related fields.

   • Minimum 2 years of experience in design/engineering; experience in industrial plants, data centers, or MEP design/construction preferred.

3. Technical Skills

   • Ability to read architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.

   • Proficiency in AutoCAD.

   • Familiarity with Indonesian permitting processes (e.g., PBG, SLF, fire approval) is an advantage.

4. Soft Skills

   • Strong communication skills, able to accurately convey technical information between Chinese and local teams.

   • Adaptable to a mixed office + project site work environment.

   • Responsible, detail-oriented with sensitivity to technical terminology, not satisfied with “approximate meaning.”

   • Willing to learn Indonesian design codes and approval requirements.

5. Identity Requirements

   • Indonesian citizen, or foreigner with valid Indonesian work visa/long-term residency.

   • Able to work stably in Indonesia.

Preferred Qualifications

• Holder or candidate of SKA / SKK certification.

• Experience working in Chinese design institutes or engineering companies.

• Experience translating technical documents in Mandarin.

• Possession of local driver’s license, able to travel independently to projects or government offices.

• Familiarity with industrial plants, data centers, fire pump rooms, diesel generators, UPS systems, etc.
