PRIMARY EDUCATOR HOMEROOM

Position Overview

The Primary Homeroom Educator is responsible for creating and leading a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment in which primary learners feel safe, connected, curious, and empowered to learn.

As the primary point of connection for a designated group of learners, the Homeroom Educator takes responsibility for the academic, social, emotional, and personal development of the children in their care. The role combines strong classroom practice with relationship-building, inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and meaningful engagement with families and the wider school community.

The Homeroom Educator works closely with specialist educators, learning support staff, school leadership, and families to ensure that each learner is understood, supported, and appropriately challenged.

Key Responsibilities

1. Learning & Teaching

• Plan, facilitate, and assess engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with the school’s curriculum and learning philosophy.

• Use inquiry-based, learner-centred, and experiential approaches to support meaningful learning.

• Differentiate learning to respond to individual needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles.

• Integrate literacy, numeracy, social sciences, science, arts, wellbeing, and other areas of learning through purposeful and connected experiences.

• Use the local environment, community, and ocean context as opportunities for authentic learning where appropriate.

• Monitor learner progress and use assessment information to inform planning and teaching.

• Maintain accurate records of learner progress, observations, and learning evidence.

2. Learner Wellbeing & Development

• Build strong, respectful, and trusting relationships with learners.

• Create a classroom environment that promotes belonging, confidence, independence, responsibility, and positive relationships.

• Support learners in developing social-emotional skills, resilience, communication, collaboration, and self-management.

• Identify and appropriately respond to academic, behavioural, social, or wellbeing concerns.

• Promote the school’s values of Connection, Curiosity, Collaboration, and Contribution through daily classroom practice.

3. Classroom Leadership & Management

• Establish clear routines, expectations, and systems that support a positive learning environment.

• Manage behaviour in a respectful, consistent, and restorative manner.

• Maintain a safe, organised, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment.

• Encourage learners to take increasing ownership of their learning environment and responsibilities.

• Ensure appropriate safeguarding and child-protection practices are followed at all times.

4. Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with specialist educators and support staff to provide a coherent learning experience for each learner.

• Participate actively in planning meetings, professional learning, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives.

• Share relevant learner information with colleagues while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

• Contribute to the development and improvement of the school’s curriculum, programmes, policies, and learning practices.

5. Family Communication

• Develop positive and professional relationships with parents and caregivers.

• Communicate regularly and appropriately about learner progress, achievements, challenges, and wellbeing.

• Participate in parent meetings, conferences, exhibitions, celebrations, and other school community events.

• Respond to family concerns professionally and work collaboratively towards appropriate solutions.

• Ensure communication reflects the school’s values and professional standards.

6. Community & School Life

• Actively contribute to the wider life of Uluwatu School beyond the classroom.

• Support school events, field experiences, camps, community projects, and other educational programmes.

• Encourage learners to develop a meaningful connection with their local environment and community.

• Model the school’s commitment to ocean literacy, wellbeing, sustainability, and responsible citizenship.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Primary Education, or a relevant field.

• Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent professional teaching credentials.

• Experience teaching primary-aged learners.

• Experience with inquiry-based, learner-centred, or progressive educational approaches is highly desirable.

• Strong English communication skills.

• Experience working in an international, multicultural, or diverse educational environment is an advantage.
